Breeder’s Cup Classic- We did the handicapping for you!

horse's-body

We’ve crunched the numbers, studied the field, and Horse's assanalyzed all the asses. Yes, we just said that! Ask Bob Baffert, the legendary horse trainer, what the first thing he looks at in a potential race horse.  You guessed it…  according to Baffert, in a May 2003 interview with William Nack in GQ Magazine, that’s where a horse gets all its strength and speed.  Oddly enough, my grandfather took notice of the asses too.  But he was watching for what came out of them.  According to gramps, if you see a horse relieve himself right before a race, head straight to the betting window- you got yourself a sure winner!  Gramps theorized that if a horse “went” right before a race, he’d be more comfortable and more relaxed (not to mention a few pounds lighter).  It’s a rare occurrence, but it’s been time tested. Rumor has it, Gramps’s betting method applies to the dog track too (in case you were wondering).  But back to business (of picking horses)…you’ve got a race to bet on and we’re here to help.  Here’s the posting order for Saturday’s $5 million Classic, along with the name of the horse, age, sex, trainer, jockey, and odds:

1–Prayer for Relief–6/H–Dale Romans–Irad Ortiz Jr–30-1

2–Cigar Street–5/H–Bill Mott–John Velazquez–12-1

3–Imperative–4/G–Geo. Papaprodromou–Frankie Dettori–30-1

4–Moreno–4/G–Eric Guillot–Javier Castellano–20-1

5–V.E. Day–3/C–Jim Jerkens–Joseph Talamo–20-1

6–Shared Belief–3/G–Jerry Hollendorfer–Mike Smith/9-5

7–Bayern–3/C–Bob Baffert–Martin Garcia–6-1

12–Candy Boy–3/C–John Sadler–Corey Nakatani–20-1

13–California Chrome–3/C–Art Sherman–Victor Espinoza–4-1

14–Majestic Harbor–6/H–Sean McCarthy–Tyler Baze–20-1

So here’s the bet… we’ll “box” this to help our chances:

WIN: Shared Belief

PLACE: California Chrome

SHOW: Cigar Street

Shared Belief is unbeaten in seven starts, overcame a tough trip to win the Awesome Again (gr. I) over this track, and shouldn’t have any trouble with the distance.

California Chrome has drawn an outside post position that should allow him to secure an outside stalking trip, which is what he needs to win this race. Supposedly he has picked up his training since the Pennsylvania Derby.

Cigar Street has been training well and could be ready for the best run of his career, in his third start off a layoff. At 12-1 odds, he’s a good bet.

Good luck Filly Fans!!
