Ukranian Cossacks & Shetland Pony Grand National- Olympia Horse Show is back!

Dressage superstars Charlotte Dujardin and the mighty Valegro will return to Olympia, The London International Horse Show this year.  The Show takes place from December 16th – 22nd. It hosts three FEI World Cup competitions in showjumping, dressage and driving.  Probably one of my favorites- the Shetland Pony Grand National, will also take place, as will the Kennel Club Dog Agility contest.

They’ve got two interesting displays this year in addition to all the competitive riding: The Metropolitan Police showcase their Activity Ride, which basically involves them jumping through fire and crashing through a solid paper wall.  And, wait for it… The Ukranian Cossacks are back!! (Of course they are. They probably couldn’t wait to get away from all the unrest).  Joking aside, you can watch them do their stunt riding, (derived from skills learned in battle more than 300 years ago) which includes standing on their horses and riding two at a time.

For those of you who wait until the last minute for your Christmas shopping, there will be over 250 shops selling everything from Equestrian products, to wine and Jewelry.

If you’ve read all this, but you’re still stuck on the Shetland Pony Grand National race, and you’re thinking “how do I get in on that?” We’ve got you covered. Here’s how you qualify:  Ponies and Jockeys train for 12 months and must be registered members of the Shetland Pony Performance Stud Book. If you’re serious and need more help on how to register, you can contact Sebastian Garner- [email protected]
